Stacey is the Volunteer acting Administrator for OzHarvest SA, operating from Uniting Wesley Port Adelaide.
OzHarvest is a not for profit organisation that collects surplus “fit for human consumption” food from Restaurants, Food Outlets, Corporate functions, and benefactors.
OzHarvest currently operates in Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong.
OzHarvest will be launched in the western Suburbs of Adelaide, then rolled out across all areas with different teams operating the various Regions.
The teams will have a paid Administrator and paid drivers as the running has to be on business lines and quick collection of surplus food has to be collected quickly and reliably. The remaining staff are volunteers.
Ozharvest can distribute meals at a cost of approximately $1. Donations can be either prepared meals and fruit or raw ingredients which will bee cooked prior to delivery.
OzHarvest will link in with the various Aid Agencies, and not only will the recipients receive quality food, but be educated in the avoidance of “junk food” with its associated health benefits.
The Government has given a 2 year relaxation of the Food Laws for collection and distribution of such food. It is hoped that this will be made permanent.
There will be a Business Breakfast in June to launch the project.
Ronni Kahn has been promoting the projects in Australia and Maggie Beer of gourmet fame will support the SA launch.
