Historically child cancer sufferers were excluded from many school camp activities due to feeling too ill at the time, or the risk of taking ill whilst away.

27 years ago the idea of a camp got off the ground with the help of sponsors and volunteer carers.

Now every State in Australia runs programs, which are so popular they are now divided into 3 different age groups.

Joan has been involved now for 18 years, and in addition to accompanying sufferers on camps, also assists with the running of the Puppet Program.

Many of the camps are held in College Campuses when the regular students are on holidays.

Camps are also held with siblings of sufferers.

Joan advised that the cure rate for sufferers has improved a lot over the time that she has been involved, and she has now been to a number of 21st’s and weddings.
